Fall Term Announced for September: JLPT Prep Course

JETAABC is pleased to announce the 2019 Japanese Language Course schedule! We hope you will join us, whether you’re looking to build on your Japanese abilities or your connections with other alumni. Read on for important details and register here by June 30.

Classes will commence, July 3, 2019. The course will be comprised of 10 classes, held on Wednesday evenings from 6PM to 8PM. Lessons will take place at the Consulate-General of Japan in Vancouver (1177 W Hastings St, Vancouver).

The classes are a great way to connect with the JET community, and to dust off those nihongo skills. Our sensei is Nick Sturtevant, an experienced and friendly Japanese professor. This term will be focused on developing communication and conversation abilities through classroom activities and some textbook learning.

It is our aim to provide this opportunity to JET Alumni of all Japanese abilities so we have moved to offer two terms with different focuses. We hope this will bring out new JET friends with more closely aligned goals.

With an eye toward the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) in December, the Fall Term will be geared toward textbook learning and JLPT preparation. The expected start date will be mid-September. Feel free to sign up for both terms or check back when Fall Term registration has begun.

To confirm your participation in this summer’s Japanese Language Course, please fill in the sign-up sheet available at the following link: https://forms.gle/EKep1JtvgTmQv4Zc6.

The application deadline is June 30, 2019.

The classes are free to all JET alumni. Materials, including digital textbooks and photocopies will also be provided at no cost. A special thanks to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) for sponsoring and providing support for this course.

As part of our funding agreement, our generous sponsors require that there be at least 10 students per class. In order to encourage attendance, each student must provide a $150 deposit cheque the first day of class. Each student is permitted 3 absences during the term. Each further absence entails a $20 “absentee fee.” Any absentee fees will be deducted from your $150 deposit. The balance of your deposit will be returned at the end of the term.

Once you have filled in the application form, we will contact you to confirm and provide you with more information. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the course coordinator at japanesecourse@jetaabc.ca. Don’t forget to tell your JET friends about this opportunity!

We look forward to receiving your application and to another great term together!
