It’s just a few weeks from the start of our dragon boat season—all JETAABC members and friends are welcome!

This year, we’re aiming for the 27th Annual Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival in New York, tentatively scheduled for Saturday, August 12 and Sunday, August 13, at Flushing Meadows Park.

We’ve picked New York specifically so we can team up with paddlers from as many other JETAA chapters as we can—JETAANY for sure; perhaps JETAA Toronto, JETAA Ottawa, JETAA Québec/Atlantic, New England JETAA, and maybe even CLAIR New York?

Not everybody will be able to make it to New York, but we’ll still be able to race as a team in the Spring Sprint on False Creek in mid-May, so we can all get to race together at least once.

Later in the season, after we return from New York, our good friends the G-Dragons from Google Japan (led by a former JETAABC board member and Ready, JET, Go! paddler) will be coming to BC to race, and we’ll join them for a late-August or early-September festival.

Practices will be one weekday evening and one Saturday morning per week.
Team fees are TBA, but will include a jersey, plus dragon boat, equipment (paddle and life jacket), and coach boat rental fees.
Race fees will be extra, based on attendance. We’ll work on making group arrangements for flights, transportation, and accommodation in New York, but those costs will be borne by individual participants.

Tentative Team Calendar:
March 18 – First practice, meet at 9 AM; on the water 9:30 to 11 AM.
May 14 – Spring Sprint Regatta ($495), in 10-person Swift boats on False Creek
August 12 & 13 – New York race with JETAANY + other JETAA members of us will likely take an optional extended vacation in New York following the race)
August 26 (Steveston, $900), August 26 & 27 (Kelowna, $1,150), or September 9 & 10 (Penticton, $1,212) – race with “G-Dragons” members from Google Japan.
