The Consulate General of Japan in Vancouver is currently gearing up for the recruitment season for the 2017 JET Programme, and are looking for JET alumni volunteers to help out with university career fairs and information sessions. If you are looking for a way to get involved with JET and maybe reminisce a little, here are the opportunities:

  1. As a Career Fair Volunteer, you will be responsible for assisting in the promotion of the JET Programme to university students at our career fair booth. Volunteers introduce the basics of the JET Programme, answer questions and hand out programme information.
  2. For Information Session Speakers, we are looking for alumni to fulfill one of two roles, either as the main speaker or an alumni guest speaker.

As a main speaker, you would be responsible for facilitating an information session including introducing the JET Programme, explaining the application process, showing the JET promotional video and answering questions. We will arrange the session to fit your schedule (usually during daytime hours) and supply you with the presentation notes (A PowerPoint presentation will be supplied as applicable). Sessions are normally 90 minutes with the video taking up about 30 minutes.

As an alumni guest speaker, you would be responsible to provide a brief overview of your JET experience, about 10 minutes. Alumni explain the basics of their placement, their typical day and what they got out of their JET experience. (A presentation outline and/or PowerPoint presentation will be requested in advance of the presentation date. Alumni guest speakers may be required only to stay for the duration of their presentation and to help answer questions by pre-arrangement).
